DESCRIPTION:singers near and far\, curious friends and neighbors\, \ny’all are formally invited to gather around the square\, the second sunday in july\, in way’s mills\, for yet another day of shapes\, loud anthems & shouts of sacred joy! \n\n\n\nwe’ll sing from 10 to 4\, at way’s mills lovely community centre – a two-storey heritage building with wooden walls\, ceiling and floors!this is our second year\, since the pandemic\, organizing the eastern townships sacred harp all-day singing\, but the day is also connected to a local singing tradition\, being the twenty-seventh annual sacred harp event in the eastern townships (that we know of).\n\n\neveryone is warmly welcome : no entry fee\, no experience necessary\, no pressure. only the very real joy of friendship and (loud) singing!\n\nSUMMARY\nwhat: eastern townships sacred harp all-day singing 2025when: sunday july 13\, 2025\, at 10 am (registration from 9:30 am)where: 2081\, chemin way’s mills\, barnston-ouest\, J0B 1C0who: y’all\, hopefully!why: because we love shapenotes\, because we love sharing loud tunes and good food\, and because we love each other!\n\n(and obviously join us\, also\, the friday night and saturday before\, in montreal! https://www.facebook.com/events/657431433563566)\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT IS SACRED HARP\nif you’ve ended up here (somehow)\, have no idea what it’s all about (fair!) and have read to this point (impressive!)\, we recommend pausing this and taking the next seven minutes to watch this short video that will hopefully give you some important context clues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s52JDzvIEBg\nLOCATION\nway’s mills community centre is located at 2081\, chemin way’s mills\, barnston-ouest (in québec\, canada\, on unceded abenaki land)\, J0B 1C0. the venue is wheelchair accessible\, with bathrooms\, kitchen area and a patio on the ground floor. singing will take place on the upper floor\, which is accessible by stairs and elevator.\nCOVID19\nmasks are not required\, but we welcome and support anyone who wishes to wear one. a same-day negative COVID test will be required at the door (a photo is fine). if you’re feeling unwell\, please stay home—we’ll miss you\, but we’ll sing together another time. we want to make it as accessible as possible for as many folks to join in for the day.\nCHILDCARE\nchildcare will be available\, more info to come.\nHOUSING\nhousing is available with local singers. please reach out in advance if you need a place to stay\, and we’ll try to match you with someone. camping is also possible nearby.\nPARKING\nfree parking is available across the street from the community centre\, with some charging stations for electric cars.\nDINNER ON THE GROUNDS\nwe’ll break mid-day for a potluck lunch—please bring a dish to share if you’re able. standardized ingredient labels will be available. we’ll provide hot and cold beverages.\nCONTACT\nplease send questions and inquiries to info@sacredharpsherbrooke.org

DESCRIPTION:On the last thursday of every month\, we take a moment specifically to welcome new singers. If it feels intimidating to come to your first singing on a regular week\, our very amateur monthly singing school is the perfect occasion! \nWhat’s Sacred Harp? Where does it come from? What are those funny little shapes? Why do y’all swing your arms around so much? Why are the lyrics so gloomy? Etc. \nThere are no silly questions\, and I promise it all makes sense\, somewhat..! \nJoin us at 6:30 pm\, on the last thursday of the month\, and quickly learn just four notes to sing like it’s 1844!
